You yourself are the expert of that stuff you love and I think you have to have the trust that there are enough people in the whole wide world who share the same kind of thing.
— Sini Ellen

This is a re-release of an interview that I originally featured on my previous podcast, A Playful Day.

Today’s podcast guests are Jonna and Sini, the co-founders of Laine Magazine. Laine is a high-quality Nordic knit & lifestyle magazine that celebrates natural fibres, slow living, local craftsmanship and beautiful, simple things in life. This is a magazine that inspires knitters but also contains lifestyle pieces like city guides, delicious recipes and feature interviews. Laine Magazine is enriched with all of Jonna and Sini's passions as photographers, story tellers and knitters.

What really ignites me in this interview is the unapologetic explanation of why Jonna and Sini create the way they do and shape their business the way they do. In a world where online criticism comes fast and furious, they hold to their ideals and standards because they know that when all is said and done, it is their business. They feel good about what they put out into the world and why shouldn’t they? All too often I see a feeling of entitlement about how things are presented and marketed. Jonna and Sini know that they can’t please everyone but they can please a group of us enormously so they will push as hard as they can to give the most they can. I have nothing but respect for that.

I think it was just this craving to let people see our pictures, to hear our stories and knitting has always been to us both, you know, it’s more than knitting. It’s people around you
